3.1 & 3.2 Blog Post Six- 15 Minute Logo Challenge

3.1 & 3.2 Blog Post Five- Annotated Sketch

Cityscape/Urban Traditional: Saul Bass

- The focal point is the title and the glasses.

- The white border is the leading line.

- Typography is used in the centre of the poster to keep the focus on it. The artist used a sans-serif font in all caps to enhance the simplicity of the design.

- The black block on the bottom is repeated on the top of the poster (though smaller).

- Blue, black and white is used.

Cityscape/Urban Contemporary: Katie Manos

- Our eyes immediately focus on the bicycle, which is the focal point.

- The lines near the circle act as the leading lines so our eyes will be led to the bike.

- Everything is coloured in monochrome except for the red circle and the red text at the bottom.

- The same colour (red) is used for the text.

- Typography is used at the bottom with the same colour as the circle so there wouldn't be as much white space. Using the same colour as the circle also gives a link so it wouldn't look out of place.

Cityscape/Urban Aotearoa: Stuart Geddes

- The bead-like things are the focal point.

- The leading lines are the blocks of colours meeting together, leading our eyes to the focal point.

- The artist uses blocks of colours.

- The blocks are repeated (in different colours and sizes).

- There is no typography to keep the poster simple.

3.1 & 3.2 Blog Post Two- Colour Palette (2)

Colour Palettes:

I made 3 custom colour palettes at first, these are the colours I often find for cosmetic/skincare brands so I decided to make 3 more playing around with changing the saturation etc. They are quite similar so I'm planning on choosing the 3 that I like the most and fixing some of the colours I don't like.

3.1 & 3.2 Blog Post Two- Colour Palette (1)

Analogous:
Analogous colours are colours that are similar to each other.

Monochromatic:
Monochromatic colours are all the colours of the same hue.

Triad:
A Triad colour scheme is a complementary colour scheme in which the colours have an equal distance between.

Complementary:
Complementary colours are the opposite hues on the colour wheel.

Split complementary:
Split complementary colours take up one base colour and two secondary colours.

Double split complementary:
A double split complementary colour scheme is when two hues are next to each other and are paired with two hues next to each other on the opposite side.

Square:
This colour scheme consists of one base colour and three colours that are 90 degrees apart from each other.

Compound:
A compound colour scheme is when you choose a colour and the two colours next to their complementary colours. This can have less contrast than the complementary colour scheme.

Shades:
This is a colour scheme in which black is added to the main colour to create darkness in the colour.

3.1 & 3.2 Blog Post One- Design Brainstorm

My chosen theme is urban/cityscapes. I chose this theme because looking at the compositions I feel like I can come up with more designs for this instead of the other themes like environmental protection, spiritual, etc.

I explored the works of the urban/cityscapes artists to get a vision for my theme. I specifically like the design mainly because of the geometric shapes, the abstract design, the illustrations and the layout of the typography. If I were to choose an artist I really like the compositions from I would choose Joseph Muller-Brockmann. I like Saul Bass as well.

I also explored the Memphis movement to get more ideas. These design compositions inspired me to choose this theme.

After choosing a theme and exploring the artist's compositions. I started to brainstorm ideas for my corporate. I came up with five ideas, then I went further with my brainstorming and came up with what products and what things I might need to design for each corporate.

At the moment I'm leaning towards doing a skincare brand, or a clothing brand. I won't do a music label because I already did it last year.
