2.2 Design Criteria- Art

Mood board, Colour Palette and Brief:

These are my mood board, colour palette and brief. I used the design aspect of my artist models from my mood board to create my artwork. I used the colour palette I created for the main colours of my artworks.

Logo:

For my logo, I had to first come up with ideas and draw them on a sketchbook. Then I developed my idea to further expand my options. After developing my logos I then chose a final logo that I will use.

Poster Design:

For my poster design for the promotion of the group’s debut I first sketched out my ideas on a sketchbook then I developed further by using my artist models as an inspiration. I chose a design for the final poster and changed what I didn't like and kept what I liked.

Album:

For my album design, I also started by sketching my ideas on a sketchbook. Then I used that to create a design.

After choosing a final design for each of my works I made a mockup to see how the design would look if it was used in real life.

The artist models I was inspired by the most are Josef Muller Brockmann and Saul Bass. From their design, I took inspiration from their use of geometric shapes and use of one solid colour background. I was also vaguely inspired by Stuart Geddes's use of different kinds of fonts and David Carson's use of ripped up paper to create a collage-like artwork.

Folio Panel Two- Art

How many series of works are you planning?
I'm planning on making about 5 series of works for panel two.

What can you tell me about how they extend upon your kaupapa?
My theme is minimalist style design, these designs will be designed using simple geometric shapes and pastel colours that aren't that bright (muted colours).

How?
Like stated previously, I will use geometric shapes etc, to achieve my theme. This will make my board look solid and well put together. I will also include design aspects from my artist models to make my board feel connected.

What links can you tell me you are making to your artist models?
Like my artist models I will be using, geometric shapes, typography and mixture of colours to execute similar designs to them.

What are your next steps?
My next steps is finishing my first panel.

Mood board- Art

Mood board:

These are the artists that I chose for my mood board.

I chose Saul Bass and Josef Müller-Brockmann as the traditional artist. For contemporary art, I chose David Carson. The Aotearoa artist I have chosen is Stuart Geddes. Since I chose design, I picked an artist which designs attract my interest.

I was thinking of music for my corporate because I have ideas on how to execute my artist model designs into a music record. The geometric patterns and words scattered along the designs are a perfect idea for a music record because I have always been interested in music and the designs of music albums that were released in different countries. It is amusing to see the different styles a music album has.

Location: South Korea
I want this trip to last for at least 2 to 3 weeks. The first week being a detailed list of places I really hope I can go to someday. The second and third week consists of just going to random places.
Week 1:
Day 1: Petite France
Day 2: Ihwa Mural Village
Day 3: Namsan and N Seoul Tower
Day 4: Hangang Park and Myeong-dong
Day 5: Dongdaemun Market and Dongdaemun Design Plaza
Day 6: Starfield COEX Mall
Day 7: Ehwa Uniform Rental, Lotte World and Lotte World Tower
Week 2:
Going around Seoul Cafes, Restaurants and Goto Mall.

Week 3:

Going around Tongyeong, Gwangju and Suncheon.

We will stay at Mercure Ambassador Seoul Gangnam Sodowe (Around $202 for 3 guests). Wifi and breakfast are free, rooms are air-conditioned and bathrooms are included. Services include front desk (24 hours), full-service laundry and wake up calls.

We will get there by plane- 24 hours flight from Christchurch Airport to Incheon Airport with two stops in Auckland and Singapore (Around $3,500 NZD for a round trip for one person).

I want to go there with 1 or 2 friends.

No visa is required to visit South Korea if the stay is no more than 90 days. A valid passport is needed to travel to Korea.

Other things we might need is a transportation card and/or cash for bus fares.
