For our math craft today we were doing meander and/or string art. For meander, we have to mimic a pattern and produce our personal design. Meander is a frequent pattern or motif, usually assembled from an unbroken line. For string art, my classmates were creating a pattern with strings.

English- October 26, 2018
In English, we are learning to think critically to identify and describe the key aspects of a visual text. We are answering questions about our initial response, how well the movies have been made, cultural places and references within the movie and so on.
The questions were kinda difficult for me because English is not my strongest aspect and some of the questions were kinda hard to do, but answering it helps my vocabulary grow.

Planting seeds
Aim:
To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.
Method:
1. We worked in groups of 3-4 students.
2. Potting mix was put into the cups.
3. The cups were planted with the beans.
4. Each cup had a different growing.
Cup 1- normal
Cup 2- red cellophane
Cup 3- overwatered
Cup 4- blue cellophane
Cup 5- clear cellophane
The plants grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured.
Findings:

Plant growing condition
|
Height after 10 days (mm)
|
Normal
| 76 mm |
blue cellophane
| 24 mm |
Red cellophane
| 80 mm |
Overwater
Clear
| 38 mm 59 mm |
The normal seedling was planted in the normal potting mix and grew to a height of 76 mm.
The blue cellophane seedling was planted in the normal potting mix, covered in blue cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of 24 mm. The red cellophane seedling was planted in the normal potting mix and watered. It grew to a height of 80 mm. The overwatered seedling was planted in the normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of 38 mm.
Conclusion:
The seed that was watered correctly and covered in red cellophane was the one that grew the most.
From the pictures and evidence, we can conclude that:
The seedling height was:
1. 76 mm
2. 80 mm
3. 38 mm
4. 24 mm
The best growing conditions were:
1. red
2. normal
3. clear
4. overwatered
therefore the seedling with the best conditions grew to a height of 80 mm.

You need three pieces of the puzzle as shown.
you need to start by taking the negative and shaped 'T' pieces of timber.Having that done, you will need to pass the two through each other; reaching a certain point where the third can fit through.
You take the last, third piece.
starting from the designated point, you take the third piece and pass it through.
once it reaches the middle hole, the third piece should fit perfectly.
it should look like this.
or like this.
once you got all of the pieces fitted, you should push it up.

In English, we have been learning about Traditional tales. We can either make a quiz about a Traditional Tale, make a static image or make a figure made out of clay. I decided to make a static image and a quiz, the static image was about The Turtle and the Rabbit. I first read the tale and then I sketched and coloured the image. For the quiz, I went on and read Cinderella and made a quiz about it, the question that I asked was very easy to answer so whoever's doing the quiz it wont be to hard for them.
We were working in small groups of four and we had to do different things and we get to choose what we do. I also learned about what was the usual things in traditional tales like the main characters are usually girls or there's always a happy ending and other usual things that happen in tales.
The quiz and the static image went well but I think I could work better, there are some photos of my work. The static image lack of effort. If I do this again I would use my time more efficiently and put more effort into my work.

We were given sheets of paper to plan out our three-piece puzzle. We were going to fabricate the three-piece puzzle.
Firstly we measured out two rectangles of the same size, then we marked out a criss-cross line that was needed on the paper. Then we made sure that we marked out all of the lines that were needed, after that, we made a minus sign, a capital t, and a small t. This was a very important step because if we didn't measure it right something might go wrong. This was used as a reference for the next step.
After drawing out the lines and the reference we went and got us our wood, and recreated the pattern. It was very easy as I already had an idea of what I'm doing.
On the negative part of the wood, we had to drill holes on the wood until only parts of the inside of the wood are left, afterward, we went and chiseled the leftover parts of the wood.
My next step is to work on the wood with the capital t. I'm gonna use a radial saw and then chisel the leftover wood. Chiseling was very hard for me and I had to be very resilient for me to be able to finish.

Problem Solving
L.O- Communicate what you have learnt and how you will apply what you know to the Year 9 business kete.
What did you learn about?
I learnt about managing our thoughts and problem-solving.
When discussing "Thought challenges" what did you notice about yourself?
When I think I often react negatively, however, I can use thought challenges for example when a work that you didn't want to do was given to you instead of thinking negatively you can say to yourself that I can learn from this. Some other example would be: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1H0tx_TJk2704Uy2MDb9CQU6DFgdH3CXe0AU7v4kJ02M/edit#slide=id.g404da53b86_0_67
What solutions can you try when you face a challenge during business and enterprise kete? Give out an example.
During the business and enterprise kete I will be able to overcome challenges by using joint problem-solving. For example, if one of our team members and me had different ideas we would discuss the problem and come up with ideas that will have a win-win situation.

Science- Investigating the Laws of Reflection
Aim:
To invesigate how light behaves when it hits a plane (Flat) mirror.
Method:
1. Collect a ray box, power supply and single-slit ray slide from your teacher, and set them up to produce a single beam of light.
2. Place a plane mirror on the diagram of the protractor as described below.
3. Vary the angle of the incidence and record the angle of the reflection in the results table.
Results:
0 (degrees)-180
10-165
20-165
30-160
40-143
50-132
60-124
70-110
80-100
Findings:
The angle of the incidence is the same as the angle of reflection.

Art reflection
What did you find challenging about the print design process?
I thought that it was hard cutting the final design on the lino, I had to think what it would look like printed into the paper. It was also very challenging to transfer the image into the lino. Also making the print look good, it was very hard to do so because some times I get good prints and some times I get a bad print with parts missing.
What did you find challenging about the painting composition process?
I was hard to come up with my own character and how to draw it's face and their expression, and it was really hard for me to mix the colours I'm painting with and how to blend the colours. I also had to change the background colour to light blue to dark blue. I had to mix different colours to make brown because that time we didn't have brown.
What mistake did you make that taught you something?
I did not use my time very efficiently and I could have. Also in printing I should have put more ink so the prints would come up even better that it was originally.
What was the most successful about your work?
My print was the most successful to me because even though some little parts of it was missing it was better than my painting.
What could you do to improve your work?
Spend my time more efficiently.

Home Economics- Vegetarian dishes
What were your thoughts prior to eating?
I thought it was not gonna be delicious, I thought it would be disgusting because there was so much vegetables and not enough of the other ingredients so it wouldn't be delicious.
Did those thoughts change once you had sampled it?
Yes, it was unexpectedly good which shocked me. It tasted nothing like I thought it would.
Why is it good to have one vegetarian dish per week in your diet?
It's because people will become healthy, and if people want to be more healthy they could do two vegetarian dish a week. Also because people are getting the right nutrients for their body.

Do you like the idea of socialism? Why/why not?
Yes, because people get paid more if you have a harder job and if people have a much more easier job you get paid less. Although they get paid differently they will still receive a fair amount of money. A certain amount of money gets taken away so the government can improve their country. I think it is fair to be paid based on people's contribution.

What have I learnt?
I learnt more about musicals and how the costumes, singing and dancing is important. We also learnt singing and making props and background.
How does this work show my learning?
It shows my learning because people would see.
What did I find challenging?
I find performing challenging since I was very nervous and don't have experience with performing, I also find that making a prop is very challenging since you need to be creating.
What would I do differently if I did this again?
I would add choreography to my performance and I would also make the background differently.
What did I enjoy?
I enjoyed making the background also practicing the song number, but performing was really hard.
What am I wondering?
I was wondering if it will look good if we added some choreography.

Critical Thinking Question
This is what we did in English today:
- What are the strengths and weaknesses?
The strengths of living in Gloriavale is the people won’t judge you for who you are, they have similar clothes so they don’t feel like they’re different, and they all have jobs and rules that they all have to do. This is a strength because no one gets left out. The weaknesses of living in Gloriavale is they can’t just leave when they want to, they can’t have divorce, and the contact to the outside world is limited. This is a weakness because they have a limited idea on how the world works outside of their own world.
